Recognizing
Center Volunteers, Pat Babinetz
On April 28th, we held a very nice reception in the We Care Café to recognize and express appreciation for the many contributions of the Hudson Bayonet Point Enrichment Center volunteers. All the volunteers were given a certificate of appreciation. Those who have volunteered five years or more since the center opened in Beacon Woods in 2002 were recognized with special commemorative pins. The volunteers receiving five year pins include:
CARES much like other charitable organizations, has to adjust to changing times and to new economic realities. We at CARES are making adjustments in order to continue to provide the highest quality home care, adult day care, senior center and support services. This has led to a change here at the Center. I shared with the volunteers at Monday’s reception that Director Pat Babinetz will be let go effective Friday, May 2nd. This has been a difficult decision. We commend Pat on her leadership since the center opened. It is gratifying to review the many accomplishments achieved at the Hudson Bayonet Point Enrichment Center. These have been made possible through Pat’s commitment and that of our dedicated volunteers, staff, business partners and donors (see article next page “Five Year Accomplishments”).
We are in the process of selecting a new Director. We appreciate Pat’s willingness to help out during the transition. At the reception Monday a number of volunteers expressed their appreciation of Pat and how much she has meant to them. We all wish her the best in future endeavors.
I want to take this opportunity to announce that CARES made application and received a grant from the Department of Elders Affairs to provide much needed improvements to the center. These improvements include a new air conditioning unit, landscaping, needed office equipment and new roofing for the We Care Cafe and the Rao Musunuru, M.D. Activity Center. Additionally we have received a very generous contribution from Dr. Musunuru to purchase a new audio/visual system for the activity building. This will enable the center to offer area physicians, businesses and community groups up-to-date equipment to use for seminars, meetings and presentations. The renovations should be completed over the summer. We will plan a special re-opening event once the work is complete.
