Meet Our Oils & Acrylics Participants by Joan Barry
Mary Zucconi has been actively involved with CARES, both as a volunteer and instructor in oils and acrylics, for several years. She has been painting since she was a little girl, creating or copying prints of famous artists. She shares her talent with others and encourages those who come to her class every Thursday from 9:30-11:30 a.m. here at the Center. She believes that anyone, who is willing to try, can paint. Class Participants include:
Carol Staab first read about this class in the newspaper about 4 years ago. She had a background in oils, but wanted to join a group. Lessons are expensive, but CARES is affordable. She also enjoys the people she meets at our Center.
Howard Simmons recently joined the class. He was having lunch in the We “Care” Café and read about it here in The Leader, our monthly publication. Painting with oils became his retirement hobby. It is relaxing and he appreciates suggestions from Mary, when he needs it.
Tony Antonietti was a student of the late Helen Grieco at CARES on Old Dixie Highway and has been coming to this location for 5 years. He enjoys the group here and feels it’s important to get out and meet people. His early art work was impressionistic, but as you go through different stages, you try different things.
Jane Broomhead came to the Center about 4 years ago for a one stroke painting class, but prefers acrylics. She tried something new by coming to this class and found out that she enjoyed both working in this medium and meeting new friends.
Mary, although it’s been many years since your parents thought you were too young to travel on the subway to New York City’s Washington School of Design, you have traveled near and far through your visions brought to light on canvas. You have also given us the enjoyment of viewing your art work here at the Center. Come to Mary’s class on Thursday mornings from 9:30-11:30. You, too, can paint. You just may not realize it.
