Calusa Wood Carvers
The wood carving class poses for the Bay News 9 interview on February 3rd. Did you catch the segment on the Bright House channel later that week? Melanie Snow spoke to Jane Wentworth and David Gourlay as they gear up for the Calusa Wood Carvers 29th annual art show March 6-7 at Veterans Memorial Park in Hudson.
March is National Craft Month. Wood carving, quilting, stained glass and a variety of painting techniques are among the craft sessions offered at CARES Elfers Center. The Travel Department often schedules trips to area events and places that feature crafts. You may also find craft books and magazines and other items at the Thrift Shop.
Tax season is in full swing and AARP volunteer tax preparation continues at Elfers this month and next until April 15th, Monday thru Friday. Call the center at 847-1290 to make an appointment. Please bring last year’s tax return (2008) with all attachments, picture ID, social security card, and all W-2, 1098 and 1099 forms for 2009. If you find you are unable to keep that appointment, please call to cancel or reschedule. We will need all the available time slots so that we don’t have to turn anyone away.
YARD SALE
We were almost lucky with the weather for the Crafts and Yard Sale on January 30th. Although grey and windy, there were crowds of people browsing and buyers hauling off their treasures until the rain started at midday. The sale carried on under cover in the Annex for another hour before we called it a day. Thanks to Elfers quilters and friends for all their hard work organizing, setting up and manning the event. They moved a lot of merchandise. Thanks also to Adrienne who opened the Travel Department, and to the Thrift Shop volunteers who opened their doors and did a roaring trade. - 7 -
