PARKING

Parking at Elfers has become an acute problem this winter, especially with extra people arriving for the free AARP tax preparation and at the Saturday Country Western music jam. You will notice a few new signs as we have tried to alleviate the difficulties. Parking is allowed on the old shuffle-board court (concrete slab to the right of the Center). However, cars are not allowed to stay on the private road next to the court, hence the handful of new no parking signs. The residents on the private road have complained and threatened to call the Sheriff’s Dept. Driving across to the concrete slab is okay but please park in a line facing the center, not the road. Cars parked facing the road last week caused a problem with subsequent drivers trying to maneuver into the correct position. One driver was seen to back up into a parking sign and proceed to flatten it into the ground!

Also, parking is illegal front of the construction fence around the old school, or on the grass around the parking lot across the road. We hope the upcoming renovations will provide increased and more user-friendly parking but until then, please park carefully.

It’s Spring – It’s April by Diane Dare

April is National Poetry Month. Remember memorizing “On the 18th of April in ’75….” or “Oh, to be in England now that April’s there….”? Have you a favorite springtime poem? We’ll post a few in the Annex.

If April’s frequent showers make you feel low,

Remember, it takes both rain and sunshine to make a rainbow.

SAFETY: DRIVING IN RAIN

Did you know you should NEVER drive in the rain with your cruise control on? If the cruise control is on when your car begins to hydroplane and your tires lose contact with the pavement, your car will accelerate to a higher rate of speed, making you take off like an airplane. Use cruise control ONLY when the pavement is dry.

nb:  I verified this with AAA and they said it IS true. The Sheriff’s Office said, better yet, stay home!
