A new year and our thoughts immediately turn to tax  preparation. Welcome back to the AARP team who will be at Elfers to help prepare your 2008 returns. They are scheduled to be with us from February 3^rd until April 15^th 2009, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 12:00 noon to 3:20pm.  You will need an appointment so call 727-847-1290 and bring your 2007 tax return and attachments with you. If you make an appointment and then need to cancel, please call and let us know so that we can fill that slot. All returns are e-filed for a faster refund.

Update on Elfers School Renovations

You will be pleased to hear that work on the building has begun, following the award of a State of Florida Senior Centers Fixed Capital Outlay grant, The grant will allow Pasco County and CARES to complete the school renovation project in conjunction with a secondary HUD grant designated to replace the interior of the annex. A walkway is envisioned to connect the two buildings. The initial phase of interior demolition and stripping out followed by stabilization is expected to take 120 days. Later, the campus as a whole will receive a makeover, with landscaping along the Barker Street frontage and parking available in the area in front of the Travel Department. At the moment, the school is fenced off and the walkway through the grounds from the back door is inaccessible. You will need to access the Thrift Shop and Travel Department from Grey Street. The parking in front of the school has been eliminated so use either the parking lot across the road or inside the Travel Department gates.
