Carvers Artwork on Display

The 38th Annual Calusa Wood Carvers Show was held at the Veterans Memorial Park in Hudson from February 28 to March 1. Thousands of carvings were shown, with many for sale. There were hourly demonstrations, soap carving for the kids and wood-related vendors. The two featured carvers were E. Jane Wentworth and Robert Marek, Jane leads the Wednesday morning wood carving sessions at CARES Elfers Center and is a wonderful mentor, carving alongside her students and established carvers. She stresses research, especially photographs, and actual viewing to get projects done correctly. Bob Marek carves with hand tools and uses a modified European style of painting with acrylics and boiled linseed oil. We are fortunate to have the Calusa Wood Carvers here at Elfers every Wednesday at 8:00am where we can watch their beautiful carvings take shape.

Walter, our resident handyman, who responds to our many requests at the drop of a hat, always willing and with a smile. Finally, Cliff, we are so very grateful for all you do.
