Labor Day marks the beginning of the ‘on’ season in Florida and also a surge in activity at CARES Elfers Center.

The Quilters and Tai Chi are back after their summer break so our schedule is full once again. Check our centerfold calendar for days and times so you don’t miss a single session. You can also find reminders and updates in the daily West Pasco Happenings feature in the Pasco Times section of the St. Petersburg Times.

The Community Calendar in the Suncoast Times also lists some of our activities as does the Pasco Tribune.

Up until those last ‘dog days’ of August, even the summer attendance was good. Thank you all for coming to Elfers during the heat and the rain. We have some new participants and some of you have been attending more than one class. It’s been good to see everyone having a good time amongst friends.

Line dancing is going well – thank you Sheila – and we have a new Pinochle table so for all of you who would like to learn, Julia has an instruction table on Fridays at 12:30pm. Julia also teaches Computer I so thanks for the double duty! All we need now is a Quilting instructor for Thursday mornings 9:00am – 11:00am and we are set to have Elfers really hopping. There’s going to be an Ice Cream Social at the center on Monday, September 8th where all of us can meet and have a tasty bowl of ice cream.

Looking forward to seeing you and thanks everybody for the support!

ELFERS SCHOOL BUILDING PROGRESS REPORT

There’s been some activity at the old Elfers school. Charlene Daprile, Pasco County Assistant Development Manager, gave updates to the August meeting of the Elfers Planning Group. Bids were being submitted for stabilization and design in August and we did see several contractors inspecting the building. An architect for the interior design should be appointed in mid-September and the design phase is expected to take 3 months.
