A reminder from the IRS: The IRS encourages all those who may be eligible for payments to file tax form 1040A by October 15, 2008, even if they do not usually file. Those eligible for payments ($300 for single persons, $600 for married couples) include anyone who had a total of $3,000 or more in income in 2007 from one or more of the following: Social Security benefits, Disability (SSDI), veterans disability, railroad retirement, earnings from work. The payment will not count as income for benefits like SSI, Food Stamps or Medicaid. Recipients should be reminded that they should spend some or all of the payment within 60 days to be sure that it will not put their bank account over the amount these benefits programs allow. Questions can be addressed by calling the IRS at 1-866-234-2942 or by visiting www.irs.gov (click on Stimulus Payment Rebate Questions). The Elfers bus was full of adventurers September 19th as it headed out on a ‘Mystery Trip’. Driver Norm Fitsko pulled up at the Clearwater Beach Marina and escort Paula Bragg led the group onto the Calypso Queen. We had beautiful weather for the two-hour cruise as we enjoyed a buffet luncheon and the captain’s comments on area history and points of interest (so THAT’s the Hulk Hogan family home!).
TRAVEL MYSTERIES – FUTURE There are plans afoot for an overnight Mystery Train ride to Fort Myers on November 7th and 8th. It includes a hotel stay and a 5-hour boat ride with buffet. Call the Travel Office for more details (727) 848-3387. SUMMER SCHOOL MUSIC ACADEMY The Saturday morning “Instant Musicians” sessions at 9:00am led by Clark Parry and Lucinda Durkee have resumed. The 2-hour lessons are for anyone interested in playing folk music on the dulcimer, banjo, or other stringed instruments (you can use your own instruments or theirs). Clark and Cindy will not be at Elfers on October 11th, however, so class is canceled for that day only.
