Computer Column
Windows VISTA
This month I have let a “guest columnist,” Erika Anderson, write the article.
The gossip in the computer world has been very bad for Windows Vista, but this user has something different to say – It really does work and isn’t as bad as “they” claim it is! The features of Vista are a little difficult to get used to if you are an old hat with 98 or XP but if you give it a chance, you might just find it to be incredibly useful. Of course, keep in mind, you really cannot use Vista on an older machine, but can you think of a better reason to get a new computer?
I could take the time to point out all the joys of Vista, but let’s keep it simple and just play out one that I particularly appreciate…the Windows DVD Maker. You can take your own home movies and burn them to a DVD that looks just like those that you buy at the video store. Your daughter’s wedding, your son’s graduation, the birth of a child; all burned to a single DVD that allows you to press play and watch from start to finish or choose the scene you wish to view.
The simplicity of creating your own DVD movies is something that was unheard of a year ago and today, with the features of Windows Vista, you simply put a blank DVD into your DVD burner and click the “Create a DVD movie from a file”. Up to 150 minutes of data can be added to each DVD that you wish to create and you have the power of designing your own menu, setting features such as Wide Screen or Standard.
Stay tuned for additional “I Love Vista” articles.

Erika does have a point about Vista and in the future she has promised to make more. Additionally, I have recently met a few, otherwise intelligent, people who have good things to say about Vista.

The effort this year was a wild success. A Resource Club volunteer driver commented that they were expecting to collect about 5 tons of the used directories this year but instead they picked up 12 tons. The Elfers contribution must have been at least one of those tons – thank you all for your help!
