CARES Bill Payer Program
What is the CARES Bill Payer Program? The CARES Bill Payer Program is a unique program that offers financial help to persons who are unable to manage their monthly financial obligations. The services available include assisting with writing checks, balancing a checkbook and setting up a monthly budget if needed.
Who might benefit from the Bill Payer Program? Persons 60 years of age or older who reside in Pasco County may benefit from this service. Usually individuals who need Bill Payer services either have a physical impairment or are having difficulty remembering to pay their monthly bills. Often the person does not have family or friends who are available to help them meet their financial obligations.
How are the Bill Payer services provided? The Bill Payer services are provided by trained volunteers who make periodic visits to the person’s home. Their checkbook and other financial records will be kept in the home. The volunteers do not have power of attorney, are not legal guardians and are not responsible for the person’s financial affairs.
How are the Bill Payer services monitored? To ensure that the services rendered are in compliance with the program guidelines, monthly reporting of activities is required. Additionally, a quarterly review will be conducted in the home by a specialized volunteer reviewer who will review the monthly reports and the client’s records that were handled by the Bill Payer volunteer. The Program Coordinator is available to respond to questions and any concerns that may arise.
