2008 Economic Stimulus Payments

The Internal Revenue Service is disseminating information to encourage all those who may be eligible for the 2008 Economic Stimulus Payment to file a tax form with the IRS by October 15, 2008.  Those eligible for payments ($300 for single persons, $600 for married couples) include anyone who had a total of $3,000 or more in income in 2007 from one or more of the following:

  • Social Security Benefit

  • Security Disability Insurance (SSDI)

  • Railroad Retirement Benefits

  • Earnings from work

The payment will not count as income for benefits like SSI, Food Stamps or Medicaid.  Recipients should be reminded that they should spend some or all of the payment within 60 days to be sure that it will not put their bank account over the amount these benefit programs allow.

To get the payment, IRS Form 1040A must be filed, even if a person does not usually file a tax return.   CARES offers free tax preparation for this Economic Stimulus Rebate.  Call Natalie Green at 727-857-9650 for more information.
